De Martino - Maipo Valley Chile
Die Bodega DE MARTINO liegt im bekannten chilenischen Weinanbaugebiet Maipo Valley zwischen Pazifik und den Anden, nur gut 75 Minuten (ca. 85 km) von der Südpazifischen Küste und nicht ganz 1 Autostunde (50 km) südlich von Santiago de Chile entfernt.
Das chilenische Weingut DE MARTINO ist öffentlich zugänglich und kann fast täglich besucht werden! Ein Weinshop gleich am Eingang der De Martino-Winery lädt zum Einkauf der vielen De Martino Weine und Produkte ein.

Die De Martino Weine zeichnen sich heute durch die Intensität des Fruchtaromas und durch angenehme Gerbstoffe aus. Zuständig im Weinkeller von De Martino sind Chief-Winemaker MARCELO RETAMAL (Bild oben links) und Winemaker EDUARDO JORDAN (Bild darunter).
Als Consultant Winemaker wirkte auch AURELIO MONTES von MONTES WINES SA auf dem Weingut De Martino mit. Er hat den Weinstil in den 1990ern stark geprägt und beeinflusst. So entschied man sich 1996 den ersten reinen Carmenère - vom Alto de Piedras Vineyard im Maipo Valley - für den Export zu produzieren und den Bekanntkeitsgrad dieser tollen Traubensorte in der ganzen Welt zu steigern. Wahrlich mit Erfolg!
Ein Teil der De Martino Weinrebenlagen werden nach strengen biodynamischen und biologischen Richtlinien bewirtschaftet! Natürlich kaufen die De Martino`s nach Bedarf auch Traubengut von den besten Weintraubenbauern aus diesen Weinregionen zu.

Zur Geschichte des chilenischen Weinguts De Martino:
1934 kaufte der italienische Einwanderer PIETRO DE MARTINO PASCUALONE einige Hektaren Rebland im Maipotal, nahe Isla de Maipo. Damit setzte er eine alte Familientradition aus dem italienischen Heimatort Viganello fort.
Inzwischen sind in 3. Generation die Enkel des Gründers, PIETRO, MARCO & REMO DE MARTINO, und die Ur-Enkel, MARCO ANTONIO & SEBASTIAN DE MARTINO (siehe Familien-Bild), am Ruder und besitzen 347 ausgesuchte Weinrebenlagen mit einer Gesamtfläche von über 300 Hektaren in den Weinanbaugebieten (siehe Karte):
- Elqui (nördlich von Santiago de Chile, Hochland-Vineyard auf 2000 müM. 90% Syrah & 10% Petit Verdot)
- Choapa (nördlich von Santiago de Chile, auf 825 müM. gelegen)
- Casablanca (nördlich von Santiago de Chile, kühler Wind, nur 18 km von der Pazifik-Küste, Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay)
- Limari (nördlich von Santiago de Chile, kühler Wind, nur 25 km von der Pazifik-Küste, Chardonnay & Pinot Noir)
- Maipo (südlich von Santiago de Chile, heisse Tage, kühle Nächte, Carmenère, Cabernet & Malbec)
- Chachapoal (1956 gepflanzt, 75% Malbec & 25% Carmenère)
- Maule (1945 Limavida Vineyard 85% Malbec & 15% Cabernet und Carmenère) (1955 La Aguada Vineyard 85% Carignan & 15% Malbec und Cinsault)
De Martino - Maipo Valley Chile:
Our winery De Martino was founded in 1934 by Pietro De Martino Pascualone, who arrived to Chile from Italy in search of a place to satisfy his passion for winemaking. Looking for the perfect site, he found Isla de Maipo in the Maipo Valley, just 50 Km. (31 miles) from Santiago between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The village earned its name because it had been surrounded by a number of branches of the Maipo River until the early 20th century. A powerful earthquake and changes in climate have since dried up all but one large branch of the river.
Our vineyards now stand on one of the former branches of the river, which lends the soil characteristics that are unique in the valley and particularly good for vine growing. The property has grown tremendously since Don Pietro founded it so many years ago. It now has 300 organically managed hectares planted to vine and still maintains its sense of being a family winery.
Throughout the years, De Martino has strengthened as a Chilean family vineyard leader in innovation and distinguished by crafting wines coming from selected terroirs. This seal has entailed the search of new developments in different regions of the country, with the aim of discovering the potential of different climates and origins. Thus, De Martino currently produces wines in the following valleys: D.O. Maipo, D.O. Casablanca, D.O. Limarí, D.O. Cachapoal, D.O. Maule, D.O. Elqui and D.O. Choapa. In 1996, the family decided to label and export Chile`s first Carmenere, coming from the renowned vineyard of Alto de Piedras, establishing a strong commitment with this variety from the very beginning.
Today, having reached 80 years of history, the winery combines the experience of the family`s third generation - represented by Pietro, Marco and Remo De Martino - with the dynamism and vision of the already incorporated fourth generation, where Marco Antonio and Sebastián De Martino, together with the winemakers Marcelo Retamal and Eduardo Jordán, are leading the winery new projects.
PHILOSOPHY
From the beginning of our winery in 1934, we have worked to create wines that represent us as a family. Our philosophy is summarized in creating wines that reflect their origin in the purest way possible, bringing origin and balance together. Over the years, we have explored more than 347 vineyards throughout Chile, thus covering most of the Chilean territory from north to south and from the Andes Mountains to the coast. That is how we have selected the vineyards that best represent our philosophy and which we believe have the highest potential. Our agricultural practices are based on organic principles and timely harvest, with the aim of achieving balanced wines. Our wines are exclusively fermented with native yeasts, disregarding enological components that may alter their personality. Likewise, aging is made in stainless steel, concrete, 5.000 litres foudres, used barriques (in average ten years old), so that the imprint of our wines reflects their origin without alterations.
