Das Weingut ELDERTON ESTATE befindet sich im australischen Weinanbaugebiet Barossa Valley - South Australia, gleich am Rande des Wein-Städtchens Nuriootpa, gut 70 Autominuten (80 km) nördlich von Adelaide und mind. 16 Stunden (1400 km) westlich von Sydney in New South Wales.

- Gründer-Estate- und Rohrlach-Weinberg von 1894 in Nuriootpa, North Para River, 275 müM.
- Craneford Weinberg seit 2007 im Besitz von Elderton Wines, im Eden Valley, 390 bis 425 müM.
- Grennock Weinberg im Westen des Barossa Valley seit 2010, die ältesten Weinreben sind von 1915, gepflanzt von der Helbig Familie, 330 bis 350 müM.

Zur Geschichte des australischen Weinguts Elderton Estate:
Bereits 1894 wurde im Weingebiet um NURIOOTPA im Barossa Valley, Südaustralien, der erste Weinberg des heutigen ELDERTON Weinguts von Deutschen Einwanderern - der SCHOLZ FAMILIE - mit Reben bepflanzt. 1916 kauft SAMUEL ELDERTON TOLLEY den Weinberg, baute ein Haus und pflanzte verschiedene Früchte und natürlich Weintrauben an, die er an umliegende Weingüter verkaufte. Die Nachfahren von Samuel mussten 1979 das Anwesen mit Weinberg verkaufen, es waren damals harte Zeiten. Die Käufer und hiermit neuen Besitzer der Elderton-Weinberge hiessen nun LORRAINE und NEIL ASHMEAD (siehe schwarz-weiss Bild oben Mitte).

Neil Ashmead erkannte schnell das Potenzial der fruchtbaren Böden und schliesslich wurde 1982 das Weingut ELDERTON gegründet - auch mit Hilfe der leider verstorbenen Barossa-Weinlegende PETER LEHMANN. Später halfen auch die zwei Söhne CAMERON (Familien-Bild ganz rechts) und ALLISTER ASHMEAD (Bild ganz links) auf dem Weingut ELDERTON mit und übernahmen nach dem Ableben des Vater im Jahre 1997 das erfolgreiche Wein-Unternehmen. Cameron ist mit Julie verheiratet und sie haben zusammen drei Söhne, Allister und seine Frau Rebecca sind derweilen stolz auf ihre drei Töchter. Die Mutter und Grossmutter LORRAINE ASHMEAD (Familien-Bild Mitte) ist immer noch die Matriarchin von Elderton Wines und wird liebevoll der "Überboss" genannt.

Elderton Wines - Barossa Valley Australia
Elderton Wines is a small, family owned and operated winery, situated in the heart of the Barossa Valley. The Elderton vineyard which was planted in 1894 and purchased by Samuel Elderton Tolley in 1916, was then purchased by the Ashmead family in the late 1970s and started producing labelled bottled estate wine from the 1982 harvest.

It was well after a decade of hard work and toil that the winery shot to prominence in the early 1990s, after winning the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy at the 1993 Melbourne Wine Show. There has been an amazing amount of further wine show successincluding the Worlds Best Shiraz Trophy at the 2000 London International Wine & Spirits Competition. Elderton has also enjoyed being the darling of the worlds wine press, with great endorsements given by James Halliday, Robert Parker, The Wine Spectator Magazine as well as countless others. Furthermore, in 2005, Elderton was named in the Top 100 Wineries in the World by Wine & Spirit Magazine.

The second generation, Cameron and Allister, took the reins of the business in 2003 and today work together to run Elderton Wines, with Lorraine still involved through her role on the Board. Cameron and Allister believe very strongly in continuing the traditions that began a generation earlier, on the Nuriootpa vineyard. Wanting to take the family company to the next level, they together devised a plan to buy great vineyards in other significant sub appellations of the Barossa. Through using sustainable practices, the hope is that the next generation of the Ashmead family have a lot to work with when they are at the helm. Cameron and Julie Ashmead have three sons, and Allister and Rebecca Ashmead have three daughters.

The real strength behind the Elderton success is the ancient 72 acre Barossa Floor Vineyard, which produces fruit of the highest quality year in year out. Each block on the property is cherished but the two standouts are the 104 year old Command Shiraz block and the 64 year old Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon block.

The wines of Elderton are enjoyed worldwide for their amazing qualities which come through from varietal character, regional definition and the unique and robust personalities of the Elderton team. In 2008, Elderton has celebrate the 27th vintage as a winery and the Ashmeads still believe that the best is yet to come.

The Barossa is Australia’s most famous wine region. Comprising of the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, it is home to some of the oldest Shiraz vineyards in the world, acclaimed Rieslings and iconic wine brands.
